| Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
What is your return policy?
You may return the equipment within 30
days from the date of purchase for any reason. The equipment must
be returned to TN Communications LLC, P.O. Box 3698, Salem OR
97302. It must be returned in the same condition it was received,
in the original individual box and pouch, and with accessories
(earphones/headphones or microphones) enclosed. Immediately upon
receipt, we will refund the money paid, minus shipping and
handling, which is not refundable.
What does the warranty cover?
The 1-year manufacturer's warranty
covers both transmitter and receiver if they cease working
properly through normal use. Please return it to us for free
repair or replacement. Our address is TN Communications, P.O. Box
3698, Salem OR 97302. The warranty does not cover microphones or
earphones.
Is your equipment easy to set up?
Very easy. You insert 2 AAA batteries into each unit, turn on both
transmitter and receiver, plug in both microphone and earphones,
instruct your listeners to place the earphones in their ears, and
adjust the volume on both machines until a satisfactory hearing
level has been reached.
Follow the same procedure when setting up multi-channel
transmitters and receivers, just make sure that the switches on
both machines are turned in to the same channel (1, 2, or 3).
Can I talk to two persons at the
same time?
Yes, you can talk to two or more persons at the same time,
provided each person has a receiver and earphone. Our equipment is
also used by tour guides and conference interpreters, who talk to
multiple listeners at the same time.
When would you use this equipment?
We use it in trials, hearings, and in all other situations where
it is advantageous for the interpreter to get closer to the bench.
For example, sometimes it is difficult to hear the DA's closing
argument to the jury if you're sitting in the back. Another
situation is when you are in Juvenile Court, for example,
interpreting for the parents of a minor who are sitting in the
audience (in some courts) and distance or noise makes it difficult
for you to hear well if you sit next to them.
It is also useful in smaller hearing rooms, when counsel complains
that the interpreter talking to his subject makes it more
difficult for them to hear each other. This has happened to us
during Workers Compensation Board hearings, for example.
What is the difference between
single-channel and multiple-channel equipment?
Single-channel transmitters and
receivers operate in only one frequency. This can create a
situation where two interpreters transmitting in the same
frequency in the same building can interfere with each other's
transmission. For that reason, large courts who utilize the
services of several interpreters at the same time prefer
multiple-channel equipment. We offer three-channel equipment in
the frequencies of 192-194 MHZ, which permit up to 3 interpreters
to use wireless equipment in the same building, even in the same
room, without interference. In addition, single-channel equipment
is offered in 13 different frequencies, from 72 to 78 MHZ.
In addition, we now offer 16-channel UHF transmitters and
receivers. These units allow you to transmit to 16 different
listeners at the same time (using a transmitter and receiver for
each speaker and listener) without interfering with each other.
These units operate in much higher frequencies (UHF), which
provide better range and quality of sound.
Can I use rechargeable batteries?
Yes, you can use niMH rechargeable batteries instead of AAA
batteries. niMH batteries come with a capacity of 400 to 1,000 mAh
(mAh is a technical term, miliampere/hour, that indicates how much
power a battery will hold). The best high-capacity batteries carry
ratings of 900 to 1,000 mAh. Keep in mind that rechargeable
batteries will self-discharge in around 30 to 60 days, even
without using them. We recommend charging these batteries on a
regular basis, at least every 30 to 45 days. NiMH rechargeable
batteries can last between 500 and 1,000 recharges.
If I place an order today, when
can I expect it to arrive?
We ship via USPS. All our packages are
shipped as first class mail, except those weighing over a pound,
which are sent as Priority Mail. In either case, it takes 3 to 5
days to arrive (from 3 days to a destination in the West Coast to
5 days to the East Coast).
One of the items I ordered arrived damaged or not working. All
equipment is tested and in good working order before shipping. But
if you receive an item that is not working properly, just return
it to us and we will replace it and refund your shipping costs.
